The Star gives to eight charities

PETALING JAYA: Eight charities, including medical foundations, shelters and day care centres for the disabled, received a total of RM227,600 from The Star Foundation.

Star Media Group and Star Foundation chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, who handed out the cheques to seven of the charities at Menara Star on Wednesday, said Star Media Group as a corporate citizen believed in doing what it could to give back to society.

“I hope all the non-government organisations which received the contributions from The Star Foundation will truly make good use of it,” Fu said in his speech.

The charities which were present were Damai Disabled Person Association Malaysia, Cancerlink Foundation, Pertubuhun Kebajikan Mental Selangor, Pusat Jagaan Siddharthan, Pusat Sinar Hidup Emmanuel Melaka, Shelter Home Seremban and Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Daerah Seberang Perai Selatan.

A representative from Pusat Jagaan Permata Rohani did not attend the ceremony to receive the mock chegue.

Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Daerah Seberang Perai Selatanchairman Tan Cheng Liang said she was grateful for the contribution which would go a long way to help fund its operations.

Present were Star Foundation trustees Datuk Dr Aminuddin Mohd Rouse and Datuk Tan Chong Seng, The Star editor-in-chief Datuk Leanne Goh and Star Media Group chief operating officer Calvin Kan.
